One of the most common complaints I hear when I talk to people is that a good night’s sleep is about as rare and special as a unicorn. And in case you assume the people I talk to are only a bunch of older folks who typically have a harder time sleeping once that middle of the night potty wake-up call becomes a regular fact of life, you would be wrong! I’m talking about people much younger than myself too. Part of the problem is the pandemic. Stress not only messes with our appetites (see the last post on this site), but stress also messes with our circadian rhythms.

There’s been another factor that’s been messing with my sleep over the past week, the lead up to last night’s full moon. Now, I’m not as versed in astrology as I am in other spiritual modalities, but, as a Cancerian sun sign which is ruled by the moon, I’m kind of clued in to lunar cycles. And boy, has this one been especially looney.
For some reason, this full moon has led to wakeful sleep, nights filled with dreams but never deep sleep. I’ve heard similar reports from other people I’ve discussed this with, so I know it’s not just my sun sign that’s been affected.
You may believe this is just an old wive’s tale. However, consider for a moment just how much of the human body is composed of water, up to 60% in most adults. Scientists know how the moon effects the tides, a fact that you can read in the newspaper, so why would you think the affect on our bodies would be any different?
This particular moon goes by several names, including the Worm Moon from the Native American tradition marking the start of the growing season, as well as the Full Moon in Libra, relating to its placement in the heavens. This particular lunar placement in the sign of Libra highlights relationships and both positive and negative aspects of them.
Therefore, I’m wondering, have you unknowingly felt the pull of this moon? Has it kept you awake at night or given you crazy dreams? Have you noticed any changes in your relationships? Share your thoughts in the comment area below.
